Figures Estimation: secure, internal and privacy-focused

Information about our machine-learning enhanced features.

Updated this week

What is Figures Estimation?

At Figures, we sometimes need to generate insights when our existing data reference is incomplete. In these cases, we use Figures Estimation, our internal machine learning system, to analyze data and deliver valuable insights.

This predictive model has been trained on over the 330,000 real-time data points (within 88 countries) currently making up the Figures benchmark, considering the different roles, levels and locations. The model is trained over all percentiles (from 10th to 90th) in order to provide you with the whole range of compensation, for each role and level, as is provided by Figures’ traditional benchmark.

This process is:

  • Entirely internal: All machine learning models are developed and operated in-house.

  • Secure: We never send your data to external AI providers or third-party services like OpenAI or cloud platforms.

  • Privacy-focused: Your data remains within our secure environment at all times.

Figures Estimation is displayed when we don’t have sufficient data to display the Fair, Strong or Excellent data quality indicators. The estimated data aim to help you understand the compensation of a given job, location and level combination by providing a reliable estimate.

How is Figures Estimation different from ChatGPT or other AI chatbots?

Unlike general-purpose AI models like ChatGPT, Figures Estimation:

  • Doesn’t generate human-like text or conversations.

  • Doesn’t use or learn from external data sources outside of our system.

  • Is trained specifically on anonymized HR data, designed to provide precise benchmarks and insights without risking privacy.

What if my company has an anti-AI policy?

Many company anti-AI policies focus on prohibiting external AI tools that might expose sensitive data. Figures Estimation is different in key ways:

  1. Closed system: It operates entirely within our secure environment.

  2. Data-focused tool: It functions like traditional data analysis, relying on statistical models rather than conversational AI.

  3. No external data exchange: We don’t send or receive data from third-party AI services.

Because of these factors, Figures Estimation typically falls outside the scope of most anti-AI policies. However, if your company has specific concerns, we recommend discussing them with your IT or legal teams for clarification.

How common is machine learning in everyday technology?

Machine learning is widely used in the technology you interact with daily. It powers features like:

  • Email spam filters

  • Social media feed recommendations

  • Personalized Netflix show suggestions

  • Google search rankings

Figures Estimation works in a similar way – it processes data to provide you with clear, actionable insights quickly and efficiently.
