Learn how to properly include the 8% holiday allowance in your salary data for customers based in the Netherlands

In the Netherlands, an 8% holiday allowance (also known as vakantiegeld) is a standard component of employee compensation. This allowance is a mandatory payment made by employers to employees to cover the additional costs of vacations and holidays. It is usually calculated as 8% of the employee's gross annual salary, and it's typically paid out once a year, often in May or June. However, some companies may choose to spread this payment over multiple pay periods.

In Figures, all base salary data displayed for the Netherlands includes the mandatory 8% holiday allowance.

Handling Holiday Allowance for Customers in the Netherlands 🌷

Customers connecting an integration and based in the Netherlands will be asked about how they manage holiday allowance:

  • Included in base salary: If your holiday allowance is already included in your standard base salary field, Figures can automatically take it into account.

  • Custom field with base salary +8%: Combined custom field for base salary and holiday allowance: If you have a custom field that contains both the base salary and holiday allowance, you'll be asked to map this field to Figures for proper calculations so that we can include it for all relevant employees.

  • Custom field with only the 8%: If you have a custom field that only contains the holiday allowance, you'll also be asked to map this field to Figures.

Mapping Custom Fields for Holiday Allowance 🗺️

After choosing whether you have a dedicated custom field or a combined custom field for base salary and holiday allowance, you will be immediately asked to select the holiday allowance field coming from your HRIS (note: you may have to grant Figures rights to access this field) and the allowance frequency (every month, quarter, or year).
